Is it bad to drink so much coffee and soda when you're trying to get into better shape?

Asked by coffeecup over 2 years ago

Recently I've started a new exercise program. I can't seem to get enough energy to keep going though, and the thing is, I drink a ton of caffeine. Is it bad to drink so much coffee and soda when you're trying to get into better shape, or is it just a myth that coffee & caffeine have an impact?

It's definitely not a myth. Colas are loaded with sugar and after the sugar high wears off it leaves you feeling down and unmotivated. The caffeine thing is hard to kick though. Especially if you rely on caffeine in the morning for a jumpstart. I used to wake up, toss on my jogging clothes and run. It's a much healthier way to get your heart, mind and body into gear.

Trying to find the motivation to run every day can be an effort though. I'm struggling with discipline now.
