How do I keep myself motivated? I've recently been on a bit of a downward spiral, and I'm trying to pull myself out of it. Is there a workout routine or some kind of mental exercise I could do to make myself more psyched and into things? Thanks!

If you are looking for motivation to get something done ... think of a reward for completeing that something and stick to giving yourself that reward. If you just need more motivation about life in general then a quick bout of exercise first thing every morning should help you start your day right. You can use the exercise time to focus your mind and body on being healthy which should help you get a better outlook on life in general.

A lot of times when we view our workout as strictly a way to lose weight it immediately get negative connotation. Try to view your workout as just some time to yourself. Maybe your morning wake-up, or your after work de-stressor, or your time to go see nature, or test your speed, etc. See it as another means, rather than just weight loss.

In addition to the excellent suggestions, the simple answer is increase your level of activity in the day and mix it up. Whatever you are doing in the day, keep your mind active and mix up what you do. If you are reading for 45 min, walk around and do something positive.

- I find keeping a list of things to do very useful. I pick things off the list alternately.
- Stay in the 'moment', keep your mind focused on the present and context switch once in a while
- Stay positive. Nothing is as bad as it seems. Really.
- Eat well. Eat often. Eat small portions. I find a little hunger helps a lot. When I eat until I am full, it makes my mind slower.
- Love yourself. This seems trivial but really do not berate yourself for transgressions, slip-ups. Tell yourself, they are temporary. Back yourself.

It is not easy, but it is not that difficult either. All it takes is self-belief, intention to make a change and mental presence.

I don't have everything figured out, but am figuring out as I go along. Will be here often holding myself accountable. Join me.

r.

Yoga has been a big part of my life for 12 yrs., it gives me mental clarity. I do it at night before bed & I wake up refreshed & ready to start working out.
