Cannot lose weight
My diet is perfect. Limit red meats, lots of veggies with greens, pretty much eliminated sweets and processed sugar altogether. Lots of whole grains and fruit. Lots of water.
I'm 5'10 and weigh 195. I need to lose 20 pounds minimum. The reason is this. I am a partially disabled veteran. My back and legs have permanent, inoperable nerve damage. I am in pain 24/7. I only take a narcotic pain killer at night, just to sleep. I don't take any steroidal meds.
Here's the problem. I eat no more than about 1500 calories per day, and with minimal fat. My diet is healthy as a horse. I also just successfully quit smoking. So now, for some reason, my weight is creeping up...and my pain is increasing at the same pace because of the increase in weight.
Now the big problem. I cannot exercise. Nothing. No running, swimming, riding, or even walking. Now, I can walk, thank god, but not for lengthy periods of time. Maybe a block before the pain gets too bad. Weight training is also out of the question because of the strain on my back. Believe me, I've worked with weight loss coaches and trainers. None of them have helped.
If I cannot stop the weight gain I will have no choice but to cut my diet to 1000 calories a day and start smoking again. I know it's not a good choice but if my pain increases I cannot work. If I cannot work, I cannot support my family.
So, with all this in mind, how do I lose weight? I've tried to increase my calories, with no luck. I've tried different ways to eat (small meals throughout the day, etc), with no luck.
Is there something I can do or am I screwed?
